Land Use Planning

We are working with First Nation Lands Managers and Municipal Land Use Planners to learn about their processes and procedures to develop policy, regulations, and approaches that can better serve species at risk.

Through this work, we will be able to:

  1. Provide habitat analysis mapping to better inform decision makers about the generalized locations and habitat needs of species at risk. This can guide policy and planning review including identifying high quality or significant habitat as well as lower risk development areas.
  2. Review planning approaches (ie. policy, regulation, decision review processes) to develop an improved understanding among First Nations and Municipalities and the development of a Species at Risk Land Use Planning Framework.
  3. Foster an improved understanding of different land use planning approaches, constraints, and opportunities with respect to species at risk habitat and life cycle needs.
